Most eveningwear guidance assumes a climate that ends at the door - a coat over the shoulders for the walk between a car and a room, then off it comes. That coat never comes off here. The room is the street, more or less, all night.
Which is why weight matters more than formality. Open-weave silk and a darker palette do the job a heavier dinner jacket is asking to fail at: they read as dressed without asking the wearer to sweat through it.
